The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League has teamed up with the Canadian Cancer Society to fight back against men's cancer and SJHL president Laury Ryan has joined the fight. "We are pleased to have the Canadian Cancer Society as one of our 'Community Partners' and will strive to promote their message of good health, awareness and education through SJHL games and events," said Ryan." The Society has created an innovative message for young men that may help them stay healthy and further diminish the impact cancer has on our friends and family." The partnership includes a new video featuring dozens of players being grilled about what they know about testicular cancer. The irreverent video will be available at www.youtube.com/SKCancerSociety and will be broadcast during several Access Games of the Week this season. "Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men in Saskatchewan yet it is not something many men talk about. We're hoping that this video and the high profile of these young athletes will get more men talking and paying attention to their bodies," said Peggy Hennig, Events Manager with the Canadian Cancer Society. The Society is encouraging all men, from the time they are 15 years old, to be aware of how their testicles normally look and feel. Knowing what is normal and reporting any changes to a doctor may help find cancer earlier. Nearly half of men with testicular cancer wait too long which can result in the cancer spreading. Hockey fans and the public can join the fight by attending any SJHL President's Tour game. Society volunteers will accompany the league's rink display to accept donations and provide information. Fans will have an opportunity to see the display and have their picture taken with an interactive hockey pop-up display. Proceeds from all pictures will go towards the fight against cancer. The Society is also hoping to raise awareness about other cancers affecting men including prostate and colorectal cancer. For more information go to www.cancer.ca/sjhl
