Flin Flon Bombers winger Austin Calladine is being showcased as one of the SJHL’s Young Guns.
Last week he was profiled on the league website’s “Spotlight on our Young Guns” feature:
“For someone who will just turn 18 years old on Dec. 21, Austin Calladine has already had a busy career.
“Drafted 44th overall by the Calgary Hitmen in the 2010 Western Hockey League bantam draft, Calladine played 33 games with the Hitmen last year scoring once and setting up two others.
“The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Calladine played one game with the Hitmen this year before being sent to the Saskatoon Blades and in three games with his hometown club failed to register a point.
“The gifted left winger was then assigned to the Flin Flon Bombers where he has excelled scoring seven times and collecting 10 assists in 20 games.
“Calladine has a track record of being able to provide some defence as he had 9-16-25 totals in 36 games as a 15-year-old with the Saskatoon Contacts of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League and the next season in 43 games with the Contacts he increased that production to 14 goals and 20 assists.
“In his second year with the Contacts, Calladine was a part of a provincial championship squad and at the national Telus Cup tournament that year he scored twice and set up two others in seven games.
“Calladine has also represented Saskatchewan at the 2011 Canada Winter Games where he had one goal in six games.
“With two more years of junior eligibility remaining after this season, Calladine is only going to get better. Flin Flon is hoping that he remains with them, which will make the Bombers that much more explosive.”
Also profiled in the feature last week was centre Ryan Donovan of the Notre Dame Hounds.
