Rylan Kaip, a 2003 NHL Atlanta Thrashers draft pick, declined numerous full scholarship offers over the past two seasons with the Notre Dame Hounds JR A team, to realize his dream of signing a National Letter of Intent with the University of North Dakota and donning a UND Fighting Sioux jersey. UND is consistently one of the top ranked teams in the NCAA, has three coaches with personal NHL experience and boasts a $110 million dollar facility. For Kaip, it is a perfect fit. "I believe that UND is the place where I can develop my hockey skills the most to move me to the next level and earn a university degree at the same time", said Kaip, as he signed his National Letter of Intent on November 13, 2003. "Notre Dame College has fantastic facilities and excellent coaches that have prepared me well to make this next step and I look forward to joining the UND Fighting Sioux for training camp this summer". Early this season, a shoulder injury kept Kaip a 6', 186 lb centreman out of the line up for a few weeks but he has returned to full strength and racked up 11 goals and 12 assists for a total of 23 points in 18 games. Currently, he leads the Notre Dame Hounds Junior 'A' team in scoring. Suspension Right winger Matt Stefanishion of the Melville Millionaires has been suspended for three games as a result of a Match Penalty for Butt Ending which he received on Friday, November 14 in the game against the Yorkton Terriers. Matt will sit out the games of November 15, 18 and 19.
