Submitted by SJHL Estevan It's a long way from Estevan to Arizona State University, but for former Estevan Bruin Ben Findlay that is the route he has chosen to take. The Arizona State Sun Devils have announced the Regina native is part of their 2011-12 recruiting class. Last season in Estevan, Findlay had 42 points in 57 games. In three years with both the Bruins and the La Ronge Ice Wolves, Findlay collected 37 goals and 76 assists. Weyburn The Lake Superior State Lakers have recruited former Weyburn Red Wings defenceman T-J Wees. Wees, a 6-2, 210-pound defenseman from Golden, Colo had three goals and 25 assists along with 165 minutes in penalties for the Wings last season. Wees will join former Kindersley Klipper Andrew Dommett and another former Wing Ñ defenceman Andrew Perreault at LSSU. Head coach Jim Roque likes what he sees in Wees saying he is a big, strong physical defenceman that will compete for playing time and give them the physical presence he is seeking. Wees is the second member of the Wings to continue his hockey career in the U-S. Goalie Riley Hengen committed to Minot State earlier this month. Humboldt The Humboldt Broncos continue stacking their roster as they get prepared to host the 2012 RBC. The Broncos have acquired 20 year old defenceman Mathew Backhouse from the Dauphin Kings as the future considerations in the deal that sent forward Riley Gillies to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League team. Coming to Humboldt means Backhouse will have a second shot at playing for the national Junior "A" championship having played on the Dauphin team that hosted the event in 2010. It is because of that experience that the Broncos coveted the Thompson, Manitoba native. Backhouse had 3 goals and 22 assists for the Kings in just 41 games this season. He added another six points in 12 playoff games. "We think Mathew is a valuable addition to our team because of the fact he played a full year on a team that was the host," Brockman told the Thompson Citizen, adding that his size, attitude and character were attributes that the Broncos like. "He brings a lot to the table. I look forward to working with Mathew." Backhouse is just as excited at being in Humboldt as the Broncos are at having him in the fold. "I really enjoyed my time in Dauphin and met a lot of great people there," he told the Citizen "It's a first-class organization and the fan support is the best in Manitoba, but being in my final year I wouldn't want to be anywhere else than Humboldt. They're hosting the RBC Cup next year and to get a second chance at a national championship is something special." La Ronge The Credit Union Cup champion La Ronge Ice Wolves are proud to announce that forward Doug Lindensmith is moving to play NCAA Division 3 hockey with Norwich University in Vermont. Lindensmith was a major reason as to why the Ice Wolves won the SJHL championship for a second straight season as he had 98 points in the regular season to finish 3rd overall behind teammates Travis Eggum and Marc-Andre Carre. Despite being bothered in the playoffs and the ANAVET Cup with a concussion, the Sterling Heights, Michigan native still managed to collect 12 points in 11 games and was one of the Ice Wolves top players in their seven game defeat to Portage in the ANAVET Cup. Lindensmith will see several SJHL alumni at Norwich as former Notre Dame Hound Travis Janke plays there as do former Humboldt Broncos Scott Schroeder and Tory Allan. The Ice Wolves wish Doug all the best at Norwich and thank him for his years of service with the organization.
