The Estevan Bruins won twice in two games during the week ending January 2, extended their winning streak to 12 games and opened a nine-point advantage overall in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Estevan has an 11-point lead in the Sherwood Conference, at 26-7-5. The Notre Dame Hounds are second, at 21-11-4, with two games in hand. The defending league and Anavet Cup champion Kindersley Klippers continue to lead the ITECH Conference. Kindersley is 22-12-2 and has two overtime losses, for 48 points in 38 games. Donovan Hall had one goal and three assists January 1 in Estevan's 5-2 win over the Weyburn Red Wings in Weyburn. Patrick McGillicky had two goals January 2 in Estevan's 3-1 win over Weyburn before 1,247 fans in Estevan. Goalie Jamie Langen made 41 stops January 1 in the Melville Millionaires' 5-0 win over the Yorkton Terriers before 1,408 fans in Melville. Kindersley veteran Troy Schwab continues to lead league scorers. Schwab, 20, has a league-leading 44 assists and 59 points in 34 games. Dustin MacDonald of the Battlefords North Stars remains the league-leading goalie. MacDonald, 19, has a 1.86 goals against average and .931 saves percentage in 1,031 minutes. Juliano Pagliero, 20, of Estevan leads league goalies with a 22-5-4 won-lost-tied record in 1,865 minutes.
