The SJHL preseason tournament has drawn attention from upwards of 100 scouts, with representation from leagues including the Western Hockey League and NCAA. Here are the results from Friday and Saturday. We will have a complete wrap-up in The Reminder on Tuesday. The Kindersley Klippers started off on the right foot, shutting out the Melfort Mustangs 6-0. Troy Schwab led the way with a pair of goals. The Humboldt Broncos skated out to a 5-0 lead early in the third period against the Battlefords' Stars, and held on to win 5-4. Melville and Estevan skated to a 4-4 draw. Nipawin blew a 2-0 lead after the first period as the Yorkton Terriers skated to a 6-3 win, led by Trent Cassan with two goals and an assist. Josh Cudmore also had three points for the Terriers. The Weyburn Red Wings scored two goals in the third period to edge the La Ronge Ice Wolves 3-2. Wolves' goaltender Kraig Kuczynski put on a goaltending clinic in the first half of the game, allowing one goal on 27 shots. On Saturday, Melville doubled the Battlefords' Stars 6-3. After being ejected from his first game, Melville's Matt Stefanishion led the way for Melville with a goal and two assists. Humboldt scored four goals in the third period to beat the Estevan Bruins 5-3. Colin Wilson and Scott Degelman each scored twice for the Broncos, while Brody Heintz had a goal and an assist. Kris Kasper and Matt Watkins each had two assists. The Yorkton Terriers pounded the La Ronge Ice Wolves 7-1. The Ice Wolves have yet to win a game in preseason. The Notre Dame Hounds needed overtime to get by the Kindersley Klippers 4-3. Jeff Kielbratowski scored the overtime winner on a power play at 1:17 for the Hounds.
