In SJHL playoff action on Sunday night, the Nipawin Hawks evened their series with the Melfort Mustangs, pounding them 7-2. Kevin Lavallee led the way with four goals for the Hawks. Cody Purves added a pair, while Kyle Krunick chipped in with the single. Kurtis Astle had both goals for the Mustangs. After firing 52 shots at Aaron Forer in the opening game, the Hawks lit him up for seven goals on 32 shots. Troy Ciernia made eight saves in relief. Michael Clements made 21 saves in the win. The Hawks were 1/16 on the power play, while the Mustangs were held scoreless on eight advantages. The Weyburn Red Wings took a 2-0 series lead with a 5-2 win over the Humboldt Broncos. It was 2-1 for Humboldt after goals by Shane Smith and Brady Heintz for the Broncos and a short handed effort by Ryan Kuntz for the Wings. Jordan Stevenson, Colby Nickol, Dan Erlandson and Rick wood also scored for Weyburn, who out shot Humboldt 39-28. Kindersley is 0-2 in the round robin selection series, after dropping an 8-3 decision to the La Ronge Ice Wolves. Chris O'Connor, Josh Zimmer and Cody Nunweiler had the Kindersley Goals. Cory Harder had two goals for the Wolves, while TJ Schneider, Cooper Ryan, Barrett Brook, Doug Exner, Evan Vossen and Drew Rose added singles. The Estevan Bruins evened the score with Notre Dame, beating them 3-2. Trevor Hyatt, Bear Trapp and Kyle Pellerin had the Bruins goals, while Tyson Hoover had both Notre Dame scores.
