Player of the week: Arlen Marshall, Humboldt Broncos The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce Humboldt forward Arlen Marshall as the Midwest Sportswear Ltd. Player of the Week for the period ending October 31st. The 19-year-old Marshall kicked off the week with a goal and three assists against Nipawin on Tuesday night. He had all three of his assists in the first period. He also managed to score in a 6-2 loss to Estevan on Friday night. He had another goal and one assist on Saturday as the Broncos defeated Weyburn 5-1. For the season, Marshall has eight goals and eight assists in 16 games to lead his team in scoring. Marshall beats out Battlefords forward Michael George as well as Star goaltender Dustin MacDonald for the award. Other forwards that deserve consideration include Chad Richardson and Nick Vandenbeld of Melfort, Troy Schwab of Kindersley, and Estevan's Dominic Cote. Defenseman of the week: Chris Stubel, Estevan Bruins The SJHL Defenseman of the Week is Chris Stubel of the Estevan Bruins. The 20-year-old from Estevan played a major role in helping his team win both of its games over the last seven days and has also been a big factor as to why the Bruins have been able to pull off a 7-1-1 stretch over their last nine games. Stubel had a goal and two assists in Friday's 6-2 win over the Humboldt Broncos. He also scored on Wednesday when Estevan defeated Notre Dame 5-2. For the season, Stubel is tied for third amongst SJHL defensemen in scoring with six goals and six assists in 19 games. Other players that deserve mention when considering the winner are Shane Smith from Humboldt, Rylan Zakreski of the Flin Flon Bombers, as well as Derek Keller and Jared Mohr of the Battlefords North Stars. Goaltender of the week: Dustin MacDonald, Battlefords North Stars The SJHL Goaltender of the Week is 19-year-old Dustin MacDonald of the Battlefords North Stars. MacDoanld is the first back-to-back winner of a positional award as he not only won the Goaltender of the Week, but also Player of the Week for the period ending October 24th. MacDonald is now 4-0-and-1 since joining the Stars in a trade from Notre Dame earlier this month. This past week, MacDonald blocked 25-of-27 shots as Battlefords defeated Kindersley 4-2 on Wednesday night. Friday, MacDonald was good on 22-of-23 in a 4-1 decision over the Nipawin Hawks. Honorable mention for this award goes to Estevan's Stefan Koo, who played very well filling in for the suspended Juliano Pagliero. Weyburn netminder Kevin Magee made 39-saves in a 4-2 win over Melville on Friday night. Marshall receives a product from Midwest Sportswear Ltd; while Marshall, Stubel, and MacDonald all get undergarment wear from ITECH. Trades The La Ronge Ice Wolves have traded 18-year-old forward Kurt Surine to the Melfort Mustangs in exchange for 17-year-old forward Cody Pedersen. Surine has one assist in eight games this season with La Ronge. Pedersen played his first game of the season for the Ice Wolves in their game against Melfort Thursday night. The Yorkton Terriers cleared up their goaltending situation by trading 20-year-old netminder Pat Conacher to the Cowichan Valleyl Capitals of the BCHL for 18-year-old goalie Jamie Cockerill and future considerations. Conacher was 7-1 with a 2.88-GAA and .915-SPCT.
