Player of the Week: Troy Schwab, Kindersley Klippers The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce Kindersley forward Troy Schwab as the Midwest Sportswear Ltd. Player of the Week for the period ending November 7th. The 20-year-old veteran leads the SJHL in scoring with 38 points in 21 games. He was also, recently, named the SJHL Player of the Month for September/October. Last week, Schwab had a pair of three point games and finished with seven in three games. Schwab had three assists against Nipawin on Tuesday, and then chipped in with one helper a night later against the Hawks. Friday, he had two goals and one assist in a victory over Melfort. Schwab beat out Weyburn forward Justin Schmidt, who had a four point evening against Melville on Saturday. The Battleford duo of Michael George and Brett Jullion also warrant consideration. Nipawin's Jared Spencer was also on the short list. Defenceman of the Week: Ryan Kuntz, Weyburn Red Wings The SJHL Defenseman of the Week is 20-year-old Ryan Kuntz of the Weyburn Red Wings. Converted from forward, Kuntz has accepted the role of powerplay quarterback for the Red Wings and is starting to emerge as Weyburn's number one blueliner. The team captain collected one assist in a 2-2 tie with Yorkton on Friday night. He then stepped up to score a goal and two assists the next night in a crucial game against the Melville Millionaires. Other players that deserve mention when considering the winner are Perry Faul of the Terriers, Deder Klassen from Melville, and Battlefords' Jared Mohr. Goaltender of the Week: Steve Houghton, Kindersley Klippers The SJHL Goaltender of the Week is 19-year-old Steve Houghton of the Kindersley Klippers. Houghton backstopped his team to three straight wins last week, allowing two goals in each game. He made 21 saves in a win over Nipawin on Tuesday and then stopped 37 shots the next night in an overtime victory over the Hawks. Houghton turned away 34 shots on Friday against Melfort. Honorable mention for this award goes to Yorkton's Kevin Dziaduck, who has two shutouts in his last four starts. La Ronge's Alex Gagnon, Weyburn's Russ Monette, Dustin MacDonald of the Stars, and Chance Gieni of the Hounds also had an excellent week. Schwab receives a product from Midwest Sportswear Ltd; while Schwab, Kuntz, and Houghton all get undergarment wear from ITECH.
