The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce Melfort forward Chad Richardson as the Midwest Sportswear Ltd. Player of the Week for the period ending January 30th. The 20-year-old Richardson scored two goals and five assists to finish in a tie with teammate Nick Vandenbeld for the league lead in scoring over the last seven days. Richardson is Melfort's leading scorer with 15 goals and 31 assists in 47 games this season. Also considered this week included Vandenbeld, Yorkton's Lance Herauf, and Estevan's duo of Bear Trapp and Lorne Tytlandsvik. The SJHL Defenseman of the Week is 20-year-old Gio Flamminio of the Kindersley Klippers. The Prince Albert native continues to pile up points with the best in the league and he leads all SJHL blueliners in scoring by a wide margin. Last week, Flamminio had two goals and two assists in two games. Flamminio now has 15 goals and 41 assists in 49 games this season. Other defensemen worth noting from last week include Yorkton's Perry Faul, La Ronge's Drew Rose, Weyburn's Matt Fetzner, and Fraser Allan from the Battlefords' North Stars. The SJHL Goaltender of the Week is 20-year-old Chance Gieni of the Notre Dame Hounds. Gieni gave up just four goalsÊin going 1-0-and-1 in two starts last week, posting a goals against average of 1.92 and a saver percentage of .941. His undefeated week allowed the Hounds to maintain their hold on second place in the Sherwood Conference. For the season, Gieni is 21-12-and-5 with a 2.44-GAA and .924-SPCT. His GAA is fourth best in the SJHL and his SPCT is tied for second. Other candidates for last week's top goaltender were Estevan's Juliano Pagliero, Weyburn's Brenden Cuthbert, Yorkton's Kevin Dziaduck, and Melville'sÊJamie Langen.
