This week's MEE SPORTS - SJHL Player of the Week is awarded to 18 year-old Ted Purcell of the Notre Dame Hounds. Ted is a 6'1, 170 lb rookie right winger from St. Johns, Newfoundland. During the past week Ted had three goals and two assists for five points in two games. He had one first goal and one multiple goal game. This helped the Hounds win both their games this past week against the tough opponents of Yorkton and Melville. Notre Dame is tied with Nipawin at 38 points for the last playoff spot. Ted Purcell received two nominations for Player of the Week. For the season Ted has 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 points and two penalty minutes. He has one power-play goal, two first goals and two multiple goal games. Centreman Kurt Bensmiller of the Battlefords' North Stars has been suspended for three games as a result of receiving a Match penalty for Cross Checking during the game on January 23 against the La Ronge Ice Wolves. He will sit out the games of January 28, 30 and 31. Left winger Cole McLean of the Notre Dame Hounds has been suspended for three games as a result of a Match penalty for Kicking which occurred during the game on January 20 against the Yorkton Terriers. He will sit out the games of January 22, 27, and 29.
