The Weyburn Red Wings stole home ice advantage in the SJHL MemberCARE Cup Championship with a 5-3 win over the Kindersley Klippers on Monday night. The win makes it a best-of-five series, as the teams split the opening games in Kindersley. Tyler Mills picked up his second goal of the post season at 5:16 to open the scoring for Weyburn, but Kindersley's Chad Seidel replied at 5:50 to tie the game. Frankie Dicks netted his fourth goal at 13:41, and Cody Wasik put Weyburn in control 3-1 with a short handed marker at 14:51. The second period belonged to Kindersley, as Troy Schwab scored his ninth of the playoffs on a power play at 3:56, and then scored his tenth short handed at 14:51. I don't know what coach Dwight McMillan said in the dressing room after the second period, but whatever it was, it worked, as the Red Wings stormed out to score two goals in the first minute to take a 5-3 lead. Jereme Tendler scored the game winner just 17 seconds after the puck dropped, and Rick Wood scored 50 seconds later. Kindersley had one power-play goal on nine chances, while Weyburn was held scoreless on three tries with the extra attacker. Cale Jordison stopped 23 shots for the win, while Nathan Deobald made 27 saves in the losing cause, in front of 1,317 fans.
