The Yorkton Terriers closed out their preseason schedule with a 5-1 win over the Estevan Bruins on Sunday evening at the Agriplex. Chris Korchinski had a goal and two assists for Yorkton, while Justin Keller scored once and set up a pair as well. Jason Beatty opened the scoring with a powerplay goal at 14:26 of the first period. Korchinski added a powerplay goal midway through the second to spell the end of the night for rookie netminder Justin Mrazek. The former Yorkton midget star was splendid in his return to the Agriplex in making 22-saves and only giving up two powerplay scores. He made several very difficult stops. Trent Cassan, with a defenseman draped over him, snapped home the third Terrier goal in the final minute of the second against Huston Buffalo. The Bruins mustered just thirteen shots in forty minutes against Todd Veary. Keller scored two minutes into the third and then Lance Herauf made it 5-0 at 4:36. Lorne Tytlandsvik scored the only Estevan goal on a drifter from just inside the blueline at 7:21. Danny Tomasonni turned back eight of nine shots in the third period for the Terriers, while Buffalo was good on 17-of-20 for the Bruins. In off ice news, Yorkton dealt 19-year-old rugged forward Karsten Wagner to Yarmouth of the Maritime Junior Hockey League. It is not known if he will report. And, 20-year-old forward Nevin Rumpel has left the club and is awaiting a trade. For Estevan, they were dealt a big blow on Saturday when it was learned Jason Butler was leaving the club. The 20-year-old is believed to be seeking a trade to the Dauphin Kings of the MJHL. The SJHL preseason closes with one game tonight, when Notre Dame visits Weyburn.
