The Battlefords North Stars and the Yorkton Terriers are playing for all the marbles tonight. The two teams are ready to square off in game seven of the 2004-2005 SJHL season, with the winner taking the next step towards the Royal Bank Cup. Battlefords forced a game seven by edging Yorkton 4-3 in overtime Monday night before 2,500 screaming hometown fans. Yorkton will host tonight's game, hoping the hometown edge will help them to victory. On Monday evening, Michael George was the hero for the North Stars, scoring at the 3:44 mark of the first overtime frame. The closely fought contest saw period scores of 0-0 after one, 2-2 after two, and 3-3 after regulation time. Scoring for Yorkton were Lance Herauf, Perry Faul and Justin Menke. Battlefords' goals came off the sticks of Mitch Woods, Jared Keller, Fraser Allan, and George in overtime. Yorkton went 2/4 on power play conversions, and the North Stars went 1/6. Battlefords outshot Yorkton 38-28 on Monday. The winner of tonight's game in Yorkton will earn the right to compete in the Anavet Cup Championship against the Portage Terriers who have already captured the Manitoba Junior Hockey League Championship. The winner of the Anavet Cup will represent the Man./Sask. Region in the RBC Royal Bank Cup National Junior A Championship which begins Saturday, May 7 in Weyburn. As the host team, the SJHL Weyburn Red Wings have also earned a berth in the RBC national event.
