The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League has announced 20-year-old Kindersley forward Troy Schwab as the Sherwood Player of the Month for September/October. Schwab scored 10 goals and 21 assists in 18 games and is the current SJHL scoring leader with 35 points in 20 games. A four year veteran, Schwab has been a member of two SJHL Membercare Cup championship squads and has averaged more than a point per game in each of his last two full campaigns. The 5'8", 185 Ibs native of Kindersley edged out teammate Gio Flamminio for the honor. A defenseman, Flamminio scored seven goals and 19 assists in 18 games during the September/October period. Other players that received consideration were Yorkton's Chris Korchinski, Melville's Bear Trapp, and Notre Dame's Chris Hahn. The SJHL Itech Goaltender of the Month is 20-year-old Chance Gieni of the Notre Dame Hounds. Gieni has led a youth laden team to first place in the current Sherwood Conference standings and ended the September/October period with a 10-4-1 record as well as a 1.80 GAA and .949 SPCT. The 5'11", 160 Ibs product of Saskatoon is one of the best in the league when it comes to netminders handling the puck and has been credited with taking a leadership role with Notre Dame's young defense corps. Gieni rose above a number of other quality goalies over the period to win the award. Estevan's Juliano Pagliero, Humboldt's Nathan Fischl, and Dan Bauer of the Nipawin Hawks also deserve consideration.
