For the third consecutive year, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Great Saskatchewan Airplane Toss is a sky-high success! The program raised $2,500 in support of KidSport, a charity which assists children of families facing financial obstacles to participate in community sport programs. The KidSport goal is to provide these children with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of teamwork, dedication and responsibility through participation in sport. During a designated home game in February, SJHL fans purchased paper airplanes from KidSport volunteers and tossed them at one of five face-off dots on the ice surface during the second intermission. The closest plane to each of the five targets won a Game Day Prize and were entered into a Grand Prize Draw. Congratulations to Karien Haydukewich from LaRonge whose name was chosen in the Grand Prize Draw at the March 17th SJHL game in Yorkton where the Terriers played host to the Melville Millionaires. See 'Trip' P.# Con't from P.# Karien receives a trip for two to the Royal Bank Cup in Grande Prairie, AB (return flights, car rental, three nights accommodations, tickets to the semi final and final games, and $500 spending money) on May 14th Ð 16th. Special thanks to the Airplane Toss corporate sponsors: WestJet, Budget Car and Truck Rental, and Quality Hotel & Conference Centre, Grande Prairie. Don McDougall, Chair of KidSport Saskatchewan, thanked all those who participated in this promotion and purchased airplanes. "This is another important step in our goal to ensure that all kids can play in Saskatchewan. Funds raised through this program will enable kids to play sports with their friends and receive the tremendous benefits that sport provides. Over the years this program has also led to the creation of new KidSport Committees in some SJHL communities, which previously did not have committees. This is an exciting development and helps underscore the importance of this program."
