Here is a look at SJHL action from the weekend. On Friday night, the Nipawin Hawks ended 2004 with a 4-2 win over the Melfort Mustangs, doing the Flin Flon Bombers a small favour. Brett Kuglin, Josh Belair, Steven Leslie and Kevin Lavallee scored for the Hawks, while Chad Richardson and Jeff Hajner replied for the Mustangs. Goaltender Troy Ciernia was pulled after allowing three goals on 12 shots in the first period. Both teams scored one power play goal on five chances. On Saturday in Melfort, the Mustangs moved 16 points ahead of the Flin Flon Bombers with a 4-3 overtime win over Nipawin. Nick VanDenBeld scored the winning goal for the Mustangs at 4:10 of overtime. It was his second goal of the game. Jordan Morgan and James Wasmuth also scored for Melfort, while Josh Belair, Kyle Nichols and Kyle Krunick replied for the Hawks. Again, both teams scored one power play goal on five chances. The Estevan Bruins continued their winning ways, making it 11 straight victories with a 5-2 decision over the Weyburn Red Wings. Patrick McGillicky had three goals while Donovan Hall had a goal and three assists. Also scoring for Estevan was Steve Johnston. Cody Wasik and Kent Lillejord scored for the Red Wings. The Melville Millionaires moved to within a point of the Red Wings with a 5-0 win over the Yorkton Terriers in a fight filled game. Bear Trapp had two goals and two assists. Chad Krienke, Scott Klein and Tyler Fletcher had singles. Goaltender Jamie Langen stopped 41 shots to earn the shut out. A total of 14 fighting majors were handed out, all but two in the final three minutes of play.
