Amanda Hill seeks the national figure skating spotlight. To earn that, she must place first in the silver triathlon during the StarSkate Provincials in Steinbach, MB, March 4-5. While that sounds like a hill to climb, Amanda knows what she has to do. "I have to work on jumps and get consistency," Amanda said, as she competed in the Norman Regionals in Thompson for feedback. Excitement is in her about provincials as she's never skated at the level before. With that, she admits there will be emotion. "I will be a bit nervous in front of the crowd," she said. "I just have to stay focussed and the nerves go away. Most of the nervous part is when they say my name and I step onto the ice." The triathlon consists of the long program, interpretive and creative skills. It's a combination that provides her with a challenge. Flin Flon figure skating coach Carla Wabick said that Amanda has been skating very well and if she performs at the level she's capable, her chances of going to nationals are good. "We've been working on technical elements and she works well on her own," Wabick said. The StarSkate Nationals are in Ottawa April 6-8.
