A point is a point, but the Flin Flon Bombers couldn't earn two Saturday night.

The Bombers, despite a late offensive flurry and a 4-on-3 power-play in overtime, lost 2-1 to the Kindersley Klippers.

The game itself was more exciting than the score may initially indicate. Neither team made the scoresheet until Kindersley forward Jordan Funk broke the deadlock early in the second period.

Bomber netminder and Brenden Newton and his Klipper counterpart Justen Close went shot for shot throughout the game, making big stops whenever their teams required them.

Meanwhile, the Bombers increased their offensive pressure. The pressure finally paid off late in the third period, when Donavan Houle-Villeneuve knocked in a point shot by Isaac Jackson to tie the game.

Sixty minutes couldn't decide the game. Overtime was needed. Halfway through the extra frame, Klipper Tanner Thompson was called for a hooking penalty, putting the Bombers at a 4-on-3 advantage in overtime. Despite high offensive pressure, Close shut the door, dragging the Klippers to the shootout.

Caleb Moretz opened the shootout for the Bombers, but Close kept him out with a pad save. Funk, who scored earlier for the Klippers, was also unsuccessful. Shooters Chrystopher Collin and Josh Patrician each missed for Flin Flon and the Klippers respectively.

After Nick Shumlanski was stopped with another Close leg save, Josh Fletcher got one past Newton to end the game and give Kindersley the win.

Newton made 36 saves in the loss, while Close made 41 to close the deal.

In three shootouts so far this season, the Bombers have yet to score a goal, having missed on all eight attempts.

The Bombers will go on a six-game road swing next week, with games against Humboldt on Oct. 11, Notre Dame on Oct. 12, Weyburn on Oct. 14, Estevan on Oct. 15, La Ronge on Oct. 20 and Battlefords on Oct. 21.

Flin Flon will play their next home game on Oct. 27 against Weyburn.
