Willowpark Curling Club held the Senior(50+) Men's Playdowns on Friday, December 5 through to Sunday, December 6. There were 10 men's teams entered, three local and seven out of town teams. From Thompson there were five teams consisting of: - Rick Bryson with Terry Lofgren (FF), Dennis Puetz and Allan Meston; - the R. Hainstock team (last year's winner) with Alex Sutherland, Willie McLeod and Dan Fritsch; - the Dennis Pearce team with Darwin Graham, Harry Nakano and Keith Mulligan; - the Sam Antila team of Garry Wilkie, Ken Parsons and Vic Lowen, and the Bob Clarke team. From The Pas were Terry Needham and his team of Pete Campbell, Jim Goodrich and Clare Irwin, and Mike Wiwcharuk of Snow Lake with Neil McLeod, Dan Borchardt and Don Playford. Locally there were three teams consisting of: - Lavern Morran and his team of Harold Harris, Jim Meyer and Don Molien; - the Dave Blatherwick team of Bev Baker, Bryan White and Les Nagy; - the Don Holmes team of Roy Henry, Bill Pico and Ray Lavergne. In the first draw Hainstock defeated Don Holmes and Mike Wiwcharuk defeated Rick Bryson. In the second draw there were four games going on with Hainstock defeating Dennis Pearce, Blather which defeating Bob Clarke, Wiwcharuk defeating Morran and Needham over Antila. In the third draw Hainstock defeated Blatherwick, Needham over Wiwcharuk, bringing Needham and Hainstock out in the 'A' side final while in other games on the 'B' side Bryson defeated Clarke and Holmes won over Pearce. In the 'A' final Needham won over Hainstock and in other games on the 'B' side had Bryson winning over Morran and Holmes over Antila. Then in the next draw Blatherwick defeated Bryson and Holmes won over Wiwcharuk thus the semifinal in the 'B' side had Blatherwick playing and defeating Needham with Holmes playing and defeating Hainstock which then meant a Flin Flon final on the 'B' side with Holmes winning over Blatherwick. Holmes then went on to play the 'A' side winner, Needham from The Pas. The game went into an extra end, with Needham coming out on top 8-7 to win the playdown.
