The Pas will be hosting the Provincial Senior Games from June 17-19. Planning has been underway since 2006 with the formation of a host committee. As well, volunteers have signed up in droves to help with the games. The games were held in Winnipeg in 2007 and Gimli, MB in 2006. The Pas is pleased to be hosting the 26th Annual Manitoba Society of Seniors 55+ Games. The opening ceremonies are planned for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17 at the Roy H. Johnson Arena. Dignitaries from the Federal, provincial and local Municipal Governments, including the RM of Kelsey, Opaskwayak Cree Nation and the Town of The Pas, have been invited to participate in these opening ceremonies. The dignitaries and senior athletes from 14 regions across the Province, accompanied by ladies from area Red Hat Chapters, will be piped in to the podium with the RCMP in official Red Serge. A variety of games will follow over the next few days and a Rendezvous North variety evening is planned for Tuesday as well as a dinner and dance on Wednesday night. People are more than welcome to attend all of the events including the Opening Ceremonies. Successful athletes have the option of taking part in the Senior Canada Games being held in Dieppe, New Brunswick in September.
