Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Local Scouts hosted their annual Kub Kar Derby last week as Cubs and Beavers competed with their homemade cars. With cars made of wood and painted to suit each racer's tastes, the Beavers and Cubs raced against each other in a friendly competition at the Scout Hall. For the young racers, the event was all about having fun, though there was some hardware on the line. For the Cubs, the top three finishers earned a trophy. Coming in first place was Noah Dixon. Rylan Potkonjak took second place while Grady Bedford took third. Last Monday evening, April 18, the group, made up mainly of boys, raced their cars, watched as two members of Scouts Canada were honoured, and then enjoyed hot dogs. Kyle Harrower was honoured for five years of volunteering with the Beavers. And Daniel Boily was the recipient of a medal for his 10 years of service with Scouts Canada.
