The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce the names of several players who have received $1,000 towards their post secondary education for next Fall. The SJHL Scholarship has been awarded to Estevan forward Cameron Jarvis, Melfort defenseman David Gabriel, Nipawin forward Mike Bulawka, and Battlefords forward Brett Jullion. These four players each garner $1,000. Criteria includes having played 100 SJHL games, being in the last or second last year of junior eligibilty, and being enroled at a post secondary institution (university, college, trade school, etc.). A Royal Bank Scholarship of $1,000 has been awarded to 19-year-old Estevan goalie Stefan Koo. Koo has shown his excellence on the ice and proficiency in the classroom to be top notch in both areas.ÊKoo is also eligible for the one-time award of $5,000, which the Royal Bank will give to one player at a later date from the Canadian Junior 'A' Hockey League. Notre Dame goalie Chance Gieni is the winner of the Wayne Kartusch Award. Sponsored by Old Dutch Foods, Gieni receives $1,000 to help give him an opportunity to apply for a scholarship at a post secondary education.ÊThis award combines on-ice performance with off-ice activities and overall respect from his fellow players. Brad Schroeder, of the Humboldt Broncos, wins the Hockey Ministries International Award. Schroeder wins based on his show of fair play, sportsmanship, honest dedication to the game, combined with overall excellence through ability and work ethic. The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League SaskTel Showcase of Awards will continue later this month.
