The Government of Saskatchewan and Sask Sport honoured Saskatchewan Olympians, Paralympians, coaches and officials that represented Canada during the London 2012 Summer Games in a ceremony at the Saskatchewan Legislature. 'The London 2012 Summer Games only lasted a few short weeks but we know that it takes years of dedication, hard work and team support to achieve such a goal,' Deputy Premier Ken Krawetz said. 'Hard work and determination are the epitome of the spirit of the people of Saskatchewan. Thank you for your dedication, you continue to be an inspiration for us all.' 'London was the experience of a lifetime and an accumulation my life's work,' Canadian Olympic Women's Soccer Team Bronze Medal winner Kelly Parker said. 'I couldn't imagine a better celebration than to come back to Saskatchewan and be with the people that made it possible.' The City of Regina is also recognizing the athletes, announcing earlier this month that they have started to install the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Trail Markers and will continue the legacy with the Trail Makers for the 2012 athletes as well. The Trail Markers are a legacy that started with the Olympic Torch travelling through Regina in 2010. The Trail Markers, funded by the Government of Saskatchewan and the City of Regina have been placed at one kilometre intervals in Regina's Rotary Park to recognize the Saskatchewan athletes who participated in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The City of Regina's Community Development, Recreation and Parks Department will fund the 2012 Legacy Markers to recognize the London 2012 Summer Games Olympians and Paralympians and will seek partnerships to fund markers for 2014 and beyond. Saskatchewan had 13 athletes taking part in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and 10 coaches and officials. - Government of Saskatchewan
