Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell announced the week of July 13 to 19 has been designated as Saskatchewan Parks Week. ÒSaskatchewan residents and visitors to our province are indeed fortunate to be able to enjoy such a diverse, beautiful and expansive parks system,Ó Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. ÒI encourage everyone to visit a provincial park this summer to enjoy the natural beauty our parks have to offer.Ó To recognize Saskatchewan Parks Week and CanadaÕs Parks Day, celebrations are taking place throughout the week including the popular Saskatchewan Express Parks Tour. Seniors are reminded that as part of the SeniorsÕ Gold Plan, Saskatchewan seniors can receive free entry into provincial parks and free angling licenses. Saskatchewan has celebrated Parks Week for over 26 years. Parks Week helps to create awareness of park programs, facilities, and natural, cultural and historic resources. It enhances awareness of the establishment of park lands and the importance of preservation, conservation and sustainable management for present and future generations. It also promotes visitation to SaskatchewanÕs parks. Minister Tell also joined other provincial and territorial ministers responsible for parks in designating July 19 as CanadaÕs Parks Day. CanadaÕs Parks Day is an annual event celebrating the importance of CanadaÕs national, provincial and territorial parks. The major goal of the day is to focus public attention on conserving CanadaÕs natural and cultural heritage, in which parks play a major role.
