Denare Beach native Jason Jacobson and his Saskatoon mixed curling team will make their way to Iqualit, Nunavut for the Nationals later this year. The team, which earned themselves green jackets after taking down Carl Smith of Kindersley in the Provincials, will be heading North in November to compete for the national title. Jacobson, who plays second on the mixed team, says although there is a lot of time before the Nationals, he isnÕt too worried. ÒThere is plenty of time to get prepared for next year,Ó he says, adding that the season begins again in September. Although other Nationals are held in the same season as Provincials, Jacobson says this is how itÕs always been. ÒThat way,Ó he says, Òit doesnÕt conflict with the menÕs, womenÕs or the Olympic trials.Ó The Provincial winning team hasnÕt been playing for very long together. But Jacobson says each player has National experience, which helps. ÒItÕs hard to say,Ó he says as to who will be the toughest challenge, Òbut I think we have the strongest team in Saskatchewan.Ó Jacobson joins wife Amanda Jacobson, as lead, Allison Gerhardt, as third, and Darrell McKee, as skip, for the Saskatchewan mixed curling team. Nunavut is a first for both Jacobson and the National event, as the province is taking on the challenge for the first year.
