It was good weather and good times for the ladies at the Phantom Lake Golf Club’s annual Ladies’ Open on Sunday, July 17.
“We had a very strong field,” said Phantom Lake golf pro Chris Doyle.
Players ranged in age, including a 14-year-old junior, Lauren Fox, who’s “going to get better as time progresses,” said Doyle.
At the top end of the age bracket, Doyle said he was “sure one of the ladies is in her 80s.”
In all, 20 golfers were out vying for more than $4,700 in prizes. They played two rounds of the nine-hole golf course for an 18-hole score.
Championship flight went to Lori Salahub.
First flight was won by Darlene Myden, second flight by Charney Jones and third flight by Pat Hyndman.
“Lori’s a great player, and there were other players that challenged her, so it was a good event,” said Doyle.
The Phantom Lake Ladies’ Open is held on the third Sunday of July each year. The event has been played on that weekend for 20 years.
Last year there were 30 players and Doyle said he hopes for more next year.
“It was a lot of fun and we look forward to having it again next year.”
