A total of 113 students from Ruth Betts School enjoyed a brisk walk on Tuesday, as they participated in the Flin Flon Rec. Department's annual Poker Walk and Rally. The event was also sponsored by the Community Nurse Resource Centre, and Smitty Dogs, who were on hand to cook lunch for the hungry walkers at the conclusion of the rally. Ruth Betts teacher Rob Abbott was largely responsible for bringing out the 113 kids, who made up the bulk of the 129 total participants. It was a great job by all of the kids who participated in the walk, as well as an awesome display of school spirit. "The purpose of the walk is to encourage physical activity and get summer active," said special events coordinator Aimee Deans. "Way to go to all the kids and everyone who participated!" Walkers began at the Community Hall, and picked up cards from the Whitney Forum, Community Nurse Resource Centre, Friendship Center and the 100 stairs, before returning to the starting point for their final card. Here is the breakdown of the winners: Oldest walker - Denise Rose Youngest walker - Imogen Casely Best poker hand - Adult - 3 of a kind, kings - Denny Casely Best poker hand Youth - flush - Gage McKay, grade 5 RBS Lowest poker hand - Shelley Brown, grade 1 RBS
