It's not a zone championship, but Ruth Betts team for boys junior high volleyball worked hard to be division champions. The team defeated Cranberry Portage to win the divisional championship Thursday evening in impressive fashion 25-13 and 25-7. "I thought it was good team work, we played a really good game by passing the ball to each other and spiking it over the net," said Travis Fehr, a Ruth Betts player. "It was really important for us because we worked hard," he said. "I'm proud of ourselves, yeah, really proud." He should be, while Cranberry Portage played well in the early going of both games, they couldn't shut down Ruth Betts' offense. On many occasions, Cranberry Portage had difficulty handling the Ruth Betts' attack, especially on serves. Coach Chris Gamble was impressed with his players. "I think the boys played really, really well," he said. "I was really proud of them. I was most impressed with how they played as a full team, passing the ball and they put into play the basic skills that we've been working on all year." Gamble doesn't think it was important to win, it was more important that his players learned to play the game. "It was nice to win," Gamble said. "I think that they worked hard and I think that they deserved to win. Even if we hadn't won, I would have been very very happy with their performance today because they tried their best." In the girls final, McIsaac Davidson defeated Creighton Flynn/Zerbin 2-1.
