Kendra Du Russel is new to Hapnot Collegiate, but not track and field. When she competed in Snow Lake, where she's from, Kendra earned a few first and second place ribbons. Hapnot's coach, Steve Lytwyn, has never seen Kendra in action, but heard the girl has talent. "Her coach said she has good agility, which is important because it's not all about speed," Lytwyn explained. "She has potential." While that sounds good, Lytwyn admitted she still has to do the work to be as good as she can. An area where she'll have to start is in working out. "I don't work out," she said with a laugh. "Not at all. "I like to run. It's just fun Ð something to do," Kendra added. The two races she enjoys most are the 100-metre rally and the 4x100 metre team relay. Kendra likes the competition she gets from hurdles and has been competing since Grade seven. She got involved with track because she thought it would be fun. "I thought I would be good at it," she explained. "I've always been a good runner." This year the goal is to go to provincials for both city and rural competition.
