Rookie Flin Flon Bombers defenceman Cory Thomas has been selected as one of the CJHL’s top NHL-draft-eligible prospects and will play in the CJHL Prospects Game.

The event will be held Jan. 26 in Surrey, BC, with scouts from NHL, NCAA, major junior, and Canadian university and college teams in attendance.

Roster selection is done through a joint initiative of the CJHL and NHL Central Scouting.

“He is a great kid that is going to get a lot of exposure from this,” said Bombers head coach and general manager Mike Reagan, who noted it is also exposure for the Bombers and how they develop players.

At just 17, Thomas, a St. Brieux, Saskatchewan product, was able to earn a roster spot this season.

Reagan said Thomas is the youngest defencemen his team has kept full-time during his tenure.

“He is going to be a great player in this league for many years,” Reagan said.

The towering 6-ft 5-in, 200-lb Thomas has seen action in 22 games with Flin Flon. He has four points (1G, 3A) and 10 penalty minutes.

Reagan praised Thomas as being very coachable, good defensively, responsible and a tremendous skater.

Thomas, a Grade 12 student, has also excelled in the classroom. He has a 98 per cent average this year and posted 1640 on his first writing of the SAT exam.
