More than 200 players hit the ice at the Whitney Forum this past weekend for the Roller Goodwin Memorial Tournament. The fun hockey tournament involved 12 teams with players who were somehow connected to Flin Flon. Colleen McKee, who entered a family team, says this year's event was just "awesome." As with any fun tournament, McKee says there was no keeping track of scores. "Basically every team gets to play three games. Some teams don't get to play other teams at all," so she says "there is no winner." When it comes to the meaning of the fun-filled hockey weekend, McKee says "it's like a big family reunion.' And she adds, "it's just about getting together with old Flin Flonners." Over the years, the Roller Goodwin tournament has changed gears and become more of a family-oriented event. "We entered a family team this year - Kro Pros," says McKee, adding that "since every one is getting older, our kids are getting involved and then they make friends with other people's kids." McKee adds, "its just about having fun and making new friends and getting together with old ones (friends)." As for next year, there is speculation the event could be held in Calgary. "I've heard some rumblings around town about it being held in Calgary, but that's all they are for now are rumblings," she adds. McKee says she would hate to see the tournament come to an end, as there were fears this would be its final year. "This is a big draw for Flin Flon and it's important to have it come back," she says. Scheduling works out to bring the tournament back to Flin Flon every three years. (For a complete photo collage, see pages 6 and 7).
