Robidoux the man for Bombers during successful home stand

Netminder Zac Robidoux allowed just one goal in two games to help the Flin Flon Bombers to a pair of weekend victories over the Melville Millionaires.

Robidoux is now 3-0 on the season. Heading into Tuesday’s games, he had league’s second-best goals-against average of 1.33.

“Robes,” Bombers head coach Mike Reagan said, “is a great kid and he deserves success. He believes in being a Bomber, and that is important.”

The Bombers are 6-1-1-0 on the season, tops in the Sherwood Division. Heading into Tuesday’s games, they led the SJHL in shots for and were second in shots against. They have outshot their opponents 332-212 – an average of 41.5 shots for to 26.5 shots against per game.

“We are creating a lot of [offensive opportunities],” Reagan said.

Reagan missed the Bombers’ 3-1 home win against Melville last Friday, Sept. 30, as he was attending the Alberta Junior Hockey League Showcase.

He said it is good to get a feel for other leagues. The trip also gave him an opportunity to see AJHL players in case future trade opportunities arise.

Assistant coach Gary Childerhose filled in as head coach, assisted by trainer Tanner Arnold, who is in his second year with the club. Childerhose praised the club for finding a way to win.

The following night, Saturday, Oct. 1, Robidoux shut out the Millionaires with 22 saves. Flin Flon bombarded Melville netminder Brandon Wells with 53 shots.

Reagan said Robidoux’s performance Saturday was what you want out of your veteran goaltender. He said the Bombers are fortunate to have two experienced goalies in Robidoux and Brenden Newton, who is 3-1-1-0 on the season with a shutout. The team also has Dakota Delbridge, who saw action in last week’s SJHL Showcase.

The Bombers staff sees itself as a team, as Reagan emphasized that himself, Childerhose, assistant coach Chris Bortis (who also serves as a scout) and Arnold work together.

“We make decisions as a group,” Reagan said.

The Bombers host Battlefords (5-3-0-0 excluding Tuesday’s game) for a pair of games this weekend.
