Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Flin Flon Bombers split their double-header weekend with the Weyburn Red Wings, with each team earning two points. Going into Weyburn with a win in Notre Dame, the Bombers took the home team by storm with a 6-3 win last Saturday night. Sunday night, the home team held their own as they earned a 3-2 win. Saturday, the Red Wings opened the scoring gates with a goal at 1:52 in the first period. Bomber Brandt Weldon started the scoring for the Maroon and White to tie the game at 10:04. With no more goals in the first, the Red Wings once again started the scoring in the second as they got one past Andy Desaultes, making it 2-1. But Cam Blair was on top of things as he earned the tying goal for the Bombers just two minutes later. Keeping the momentum going, Brett Penner made it 3-2 on a power play with help from Dillon (Pickle) McCombie and Tanner Clark at 15:38. The third period offered up four goals in total Ð starting with an unassisted marker for the Bombers from Beau Stewart at 3:08. Answering quickly, the Red Wings scored their final goal to make it 4-4 at 3:31. With plenty of time left on the clock, the Bombers scored twice more, with one coming from McCombie on a power play at 9:01 and the other from Dylan Balaski at 11:56. With two wins in a row, the Bombers were developing a streak. But it was short lived as the Red Wings came out on top Sunday. Though McCombie scored the Bombers' first goal, at 19:40 on a power play, it wasn't enough as the Red Wings notched the only two goals in the second period. With his team down 2-1, Penner found the back of the net at 12:32 of the third period to tie the game. The Red Wings found a way to beat Devin Buffalo at 15:02 to score the game-winning goal. Penalties Saturday night, the penalties were few and far between as the Bombers were in the box twice. Captain David Roper was called for roughing in the first period, and Weldon was called on interference. The Red Wings were unable to capitalize on either power play. The home team was in the sin bin more time than the Bombers as two penalties in the first period were called Ð for interference and roughing. The team's third penalty came in the second period with another roughing call. On Sunday, a few more calls were made as the Bombers were penalized five times, while the Red Wings had six calls against them. The home team gave up four power play opportunities as two slashing calls were made as well as elbow and roughing calls. Other calls for the Red Wings came with major fighting, giving five minutes to Blake Kirkham as well as Dylan Macnab for the Bombers. An unsportsmanlike conduct call came for both teams as well. The Bombers saw two hooking calls as well as an interference. Home Turf The Bombers will play their next four games on home turf as they prepare to host the Kindersley Klippers this weekend. Taking a week off, the Bombers will then invite the La Ronge Ice Wolves for a double-header weekend Oct. 7 and 8. October 14-16, the Bombers will join the 11 other SJHL teams in the annual SJHL Showcase, being held in Estevan this year.
