Submitted by SJHL Flin Flon Bomber Josh Roach has picked up the Defenseman of the Week honors as he made his presence known. Player of the Week Dylan Smith Estevan Bruins 1992 F Dylan Smith (Big River SK) returned the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for his fourth season on the January 10th trade deadline and his impact has been immediate. He collected a goal and three assists in a win over the Notre Dame Hounds on Tuesday. He also had his team's only goal in a loss to Nipawin on Friday and then helped the Bruins earn a single point in a loss to Melfort on Saturday by also scoring a goal to finish with three the week. He has four goals and four assists in five games this season. Defenseman of the Week Josh Roach Flin Flon Bombers 1992 D Josh Roach (Saskatoon SK) had a goal and three assists in three games played last week, but most importantly, delivered a three point game on Saturday night against his former teammates in Humboldt to help the Bombers garner a much needed victory against the North Division leaders. Roach, who was acquired by Flin Flon as future considerations this summer in the Andrew Johnston trade from last year, has more than been as advertised and is the runaway leader for scoring amongst blueliners with 12 goals and 32 assists in 41 games. He is still an outside threat to win the SJHL overall scoring championship. Rookie of the Week Dylan Fluter Humboldt Broncos 1994 F Dylan Fluter (Saskatoon SK) enjoyed a nice weekend in Flin Flon against the Bombers as he collected two goals and one assist in back to back road games. Friday, he scored the winner with 2:50 remaining in regulation to break a 3-3 tie and ended up with a two point game. Saturday, he opened the scoring in what ended up being a shootout loss. For the season, Fluter (who had a cup of coffee with the Broncos last season before returning to the midget ranks) has 11 goals and nine assists in 35 games. Goaltender of the Week Jean-Philippe Boucher Weyburn Red Wings 1992 G Jean-Philippe Boucher (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, PQ) won both of his starts last week as he attempts to help lead the Red Wings back into a playoff position. On Friday, he made 36 saves in a 3-2 shootout win over the Notre Dame Hounds. Two nights later, he made 34 saves in a 5-1 win at Melfort. Despite playing on a team with a losing record, Boucher is 10-8-0-and-1 on the season with a tidy 2.94-GAA and .911-SPCT.
