The race in the SJHL's Dodge Conference just got better, and the season is still months away from the opening face off. With the hiring of coach of the year Bob Beatty in La Ronge on Monday, the Ice Wolves can no longer be counted out of the play off picture. Beatty has never missed the playoffs in his seven years behind the bench in Humboldt, nor did he ever have a losing season. Adding a coach like Bob Beatty immediately makes the Ice Wolves a contender, as he will no doubt be able to bring in some top notch talent that the Wolves have been lacking in previous attempts to make the playoffs. This new coaching match up will likely create a greater rivalry between the Flin Flon Bombers and La Ronge Ice Wolves, as the two teams will meet 10 times in the regular season, as well as two times in the preseason. Last season, when Beatty and the Broncos came to town, the Bombers stole five out of a possible six points, and the atmosphere in the Whitney Forum was electrifying. If the Bombers can hold their own against La Ronge, look for them to climb the standings in the SJHL Dodge Conference and out of the basement that they shared with the Melfort Mustangs and La Ronge Ice Wolves last season.10/6/04
