More than 575,000 Canadians hit the pavement at 11:30 a.m. last Wednesday in hopes of breaking a world record. Western Australia currently holds the title for most people walking one kilometer simultaneously, in the Guinness World Records. The record was made in 2006 after 100,915 walked in hopes of the record. This year there were more than 1,800 events held to help Canada break the world record. Of those 1,800, 273 of the events were in Manitoba. Taking part in the walk this year were Ruth Betts School and McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac. The majority of Ruth Betts School came out for what they decided to call a Terry Fox Run and World Record Walk while McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac had 407 students participating in their World Record Walk. Both numbers included both students and staff from the schools.
