It's been two years in the making, but the Relay for Life is finally here! The Canadian Cancer Society event gets started tomorrow night at 6 p.m. on the Creighton Ball Diamond. Opening ceremonies will follow the Cancer Crooners and the Flin Flon Community Band as the 12-hour event gets underway. The Celebrate Ceremonies will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Remember Ceremony at 9:30 p.m., and the Fight Back Ceremony at 4:15 a.m. Throughout the evening speakers will take to the stage as teammates make their way around the diamond in the fight against cancer. Cancer survivors will take the event by storm in as they will proudly walk in the first lap of the Relay for Life. Dressed in yellow, the survivors will stand out and then welcome walkers to join them after their victory lap. Speakers will take to the stage all night as there will be survivor and caregiver testimonials from people from the community. Organizer Ashley Thompson will give her caregiver testimonial in honour of her late husband Dustin. Teams will be able to participate in fun challenges and contests throughout the night while teammates walk their laps. There will be a pedometer challenge, Zumba, a scavenger hunt, a Minute to Win it game and even sumo wrestling throughout the night. The Relay for Life isn't just for those walking, though. Volunteers are encouraged to participate as well as spectators. The Relay for Life will wrap up with a pancake breakfast, stretches, and one final lap with all the participants. The 12-hour relay is to help bring awareness and funds to the fight against cancer.
