Things went as expected during regionals for the Creighton Kodiaks girls' basketball team. In their first game against host Kenaston, ranked number two in the province, the team lost badly, according to coach Tammy Cool. On the positive side, they kept their spirits up to play well. Against Sturgis, the Kodiaks played well and kept with their opponents, but did play like they can, Cool said. The Kodiaks coach believes the lack of experience played a factor, but she was happy with how the weekend went. "I think they will be a force to be reckoned with," Cool said confidently. Creighton's top scorer for both games was Meagan Abele. Before the regionals, the Kodiaks left as stars after defeating Star City 50-35 in their only districts match a few weeks ago. "The team played awesome," Cool said. "I loved that they played as a team. They looked like a senior team and the passing was amazing." Mostly made up of Grade nines, the offensive load was carried by Meagan Abele, who scored 22 points and Brooke Knuston with 16. The team is now preparing for regionals this weekend in Kenaston. Playing against the top four ranked teams in the province, the Kodiaks will be in tough competition. "It will be a really good learning experience," Cool said, as she expects her team to play like they did during districts. For Cool, placing isn't as important as seeing her team learn and work on improving for next year. "It's hard to say how they will play," she said, noting that the team has played just six games all season.
