Indoor Recreation Our Flin Flon winter so far has been surprisingly (and pleasantly) mild, but the time is bound to come when it is simply too cold to spend much time outdoors. However, being stuck inside where it's warm is no reason for children to neglect physical activity. After all, an active child is a healthy child, and a healthy child is a happy child (well, most of the time). Here are some tips to keep your kids mobile during the chilly times that may come yet... Combine Fitness with their Favourite Activities Video games are a popular pastime for children of all ages. But all those hours of sitting are not beneficial. Encourage your children to get up at certain points in their game Ð finishing a level or reaching a certain score, for instance. They can take ten or fifteen minutes for jumping jacks, spot jogging or whatever else gets them moving (provided they don't wreck the house!). Mini Hockey Set aside a special room or area without any valuables or fragile objects. Then dig out a couple of mini hockey sticks and a crumpled paper ball and have your own tournament. Mini sticks has for years been a fun "sport" for children. Some communities even organize tournaments. Game on! Twist It Up Milton Bradley's popular Twister game requires participants to stretch themselves to the limit. Just spin the spinner and follow the instructions (left hand blue!). Though not quite as physically oriented as the other two suggestions, Twister will at least get your children off their feet Ð and maybe even onto their hands.
