June 8 will be a test of endurance and strength in the Kids of Steel/Try A "Tri" event. Last year 40 athletes competed in the swim/cycle/run triathlon event. This year Heather Todoschuk, recreation programmer for the City of Flin Flon, is hoping for 60. People can compete individually or in a team. The distance depends on the age group. "It's active living," Todoschuk said. To get ready for the event, training is needed. People can do training lap times on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. "What I'd like to do is set up a program," Todoschuk explained. "A schedule so you don't have to do it by yourself Ð so people can achieve equal goals." Todoschuk sees this as preparation for others who will participate in the July 30 race for ages 13 and up. It's also in that age bracket where Todoschuk would like to see improvement in the sport with 14 to 18-year-olds. "It would be nice to see that other age group. So challenge your buddies," she said smiling. Participants for Kids of Steel/Try a "Tri" can get registration forms at the Aqua Centre. The deadline is June 8 at 8 p.m. Contact the Aqua Centre at 681-7540 for more information or if you're interested in volunteering.
