Curling spectators were treated to some fantastic curling this past weekend as Willow Park hosted the men's and ladies Senior Zone One playdowns. The men had seven very talented teams from Snow Lake, Thompson, The Pas as well as Flin Flon. And from Flin Flon's point of view, the "cream really did come to the top". Skipping Grant McLuckie's team was a young man who comes from a well known curling family of days gone by. It was Jim Quinn (father was Ray) with Grant McLuckie playing third and a fanatastic front end of Al Shirran as second and Russ Reeves leading the pack. The men defeated another great team of Sam Antila from Thompson, with Quinn running Sam out of rocks in the 10th end. Only one game all weekend ended early and that was the semi-finals Sunday morning with Antila booting Hainstock 10-3 in seven ends. Unfortunately, the ladies could not field any competition for Ila Doak, Snow Lake's foursome, who won their crests by default. On Ila's team was Maureen MacLeod, Joanne Schuman and Sherry Playford. Good luck curling teams as you head South with the men going to the provincial's in Beausejour and the ladies play in Swan River on February 21-25, 2008
