Provincial honours coming in wrestling, hockey

Canada Games medalist Carson Lee won the 82-kilogram boys’ classification for the Kings, topping Vyacheslav Nesterenko from Regina’s Archbishop M.C. O’Neill Catholic High School 10- 0. Lee did not concede a single point against in four matches during the nine-athlete tournament.

Carson’s younger brother Maguire Lee finished strong in the boys’ 69-kilogram class, losing to older competitors in both his matches.

Hapnot earned 22 total points, earning them top spot in the boys’ AA school rankings and a provincial banner.

Hockey

The Flin Flon bantam AA Bombers headed to The Pas for provincials, hoping to wrap up their second straight provincial title.

After winning against OCN and defeating the Sagkeeng Hawks twice, the Bombers played Dauphin for provincial gold.

Despite scoring 22 goals in their first three games, the Bombers couldn’t find the net more than once, losing to the Dauphin Kings 3-1 and settling with a silver medal.

Austin McLean led the team in scoring during the tournament, finishing with nine points, including eight assists. According to Flin Flon Minor Hockey’s website, Blake Alexander finished the season as the team’s scoring leader with 53 points and 29 goals in 30 games.

Basketball

Hapnot’s junior varsity Kweens played at provincials in Somerset on Mar. 9 and 10. Hapnot dropped their first game against the Teulon Collegiate Saints and lost a consolation round match against the Prairie Mountain Predators.
