Jaycee Halpin earned Hapnot Collegiate's only medal this year as she placed first in the Senior Girls Javelin at the provincial track and field meet. Competing in the 2010 MILK Provincial High School Track & Field Championships in Winnipeg, 26 athletes who attended in HCI's name put in a good effort. Coach Megan Strachan said it was "a fun weekend." Along with Halpin's gold medal, four other Hapnot athletes earned their chance in the spot light. The top eight athletes in each division are awarded medals or ribbons Ð medals going to the top three. Hapnot had representation from Celine Leclair earned seventh place in her 3,000 meter run; Teagan Quinn was awarded seventh place for his 3,000 meter run and Brandon Lam earned sixth place in Multi. Tasha Rothlander earned fourth place in the Senior Girls Discuss. Roughly 1,500 athletes Ð of the 9,000 in Manitoba Ð competed at the event earlier this month. Strachan, who came to Hapnot two years ago, will be moving South following the school year. Thinking back to the trip, Strachan said "we had lots of fun." Knowing that it was her last trip with the Hapnot students, Strachan said it was "bitter sweet." "It was lots of fun, but (its) sad that it was my last trip with them," she said. Also accompanying Strachan and the athletes were coaches Craig MacIntosh, Patty Korchinski and Don Bodnarus.
