Culture, Heritage and Sport Minister Eric Robinson congratulated the World WomenÕs Curling Champions led by Jennifer Jones. The Canadian champions beat China 7-4 on Sunday afternoon in the final of the Ford World WomenÕs Championship in Vernon, B.C. ÒI want to salute Jennifer Jones, Cathy Overton-Clapham, Jill Officer and Dawn Askin for playing so well all season and bringing home the world championship to Manitoba,Ó said Robinson. ÒManitoba has long been known for producing great curlers and once more these athletes have demonstrated the still and talent that keeps our province on the curling map.Ó With the win, the Jones team became the first Manitoba team to win a world womenÕs crown since Connie Laliberte win in 1984. In 2005, Jones led her team to a Canadian team championship and received Sport ManitobaÕs Silver Medallion Award of Excellence. Jones and her newly-crowned world womenÕs curling championship team arrived home Monday evening.
