More students could mean more opportunities for athletes at Creighton Community School. Now that the student population is increasing by adding grade 10 classes this year and a new grade for each of the next two years, the school's athletics program will be expanding gradually to accommodate those who wish to pursue high school sports. "This year we are running a junior varsity/senior volleyball program instead of our grade 9 teams," said coach Jason Straile. "There are not many changes to our programming as of yet because we have always participated in out of town tournaments for our grade 9's. The only difference this year is that we will be participation in junior varsity and senior varsity tournaments." The Creighton Community School volleyball teams will travel to Manitoba to play in junior varsity tournaments (Roblin and Thompson) and travel to Saskatchewan destinations for most of their senior tournaments (Maidstone, Nipawin, Choiceland and Kinistino). They also attend the senior tournament in Flin Flon at Hapnot Collegiate, where a new, healthy rivalry is brewing between the teams. They will follow the same format for basketball, traveling to Roblin, Dauphin (junior varsity), Meath Park, La Ronge, Flin Flon, The Pas (junior varsity), Kinistino and Birch Hills. "We are in the process of building a curling program coached by Ms. Stacey Helm," added Straile. "We have also begun preparation in building and promoting track and field. For next year with our population increasing we will begin a girls soccer program and a golf program." Golfers will be taking part in spring golf this year ? a warm-up for fall provincial golf. Also for next year, they will begin a cross-country running team. The runners have been training but did not enter into any competitions this year.
