The Paperworks Pounders took the Flin Flon ball diamonds by storm this past weekend.
The team travelled from The Pas and won first place in the A side final over Pitches Be Crazy, from Flin Flon.
The Pounders picked up some local talent from Flin Flon, but the majority of the players were from The Pas.
The team left the Cash Bash $2,400 richer after the 7-6 win. Pitches Be Crazy walked away with $1,200.
Hard-fought
Flin Flon’s Cash Bash made for a hard-fought weekend as eight teams travelled to the area and six local teams entered.
DOA, Idhitthat, Dirty Little Freaks, Burkees Bedlam and the A Team were all from the Flin Flon Slo Pitch Association while other local teams combined to make up Pitches Be Crazy.
Fourteen teams took to the diamonds as games got underway Friday.
Wet and chilly weather looked as though it would postpone the first games, but the sun came out enough in the afternoon and evening.
Saturday saw games held at the Creighton ball diamond as well as the diamonds at Centoba.
Round-robin play continued until the end of Saturday with the playoffs starting on Sunday. Games started early with the first teams hitting the field at 9 a.m.
The double-knockout format allowed for teams to lose two games in the finals rather than the standard one.
On the road
Flin Flon will see a few teams travel during the rest of the ball season to compete in out-of-town tournaments, including Nationals, where Burkees Bedlam and Evil Marsupials will compete in Winnipeg in the Coed division.
