Saskatchewan's provincial parks are continuing to be popular recreation destinations and this summer was no exception. Despite a summer that featured many cool, wet days, most of the campgrounds in the provincial park system were close to capacity for much of the camping season. Early indications are that over the summer camper nights went up at least five per cent, online Reserve-a-Site requests were up 69 per cent and entry permit sales are up, with the biggest jump being in annual entry permit sales which are up by nine per cent. "These numbers tell us that Saskatchewan's economy and tourism industry is vibrant and strong," Duncan said. "They also tell us that Saskatchewan's people and visitors appreciate our provincial parks." There is still time to enjoy some quality camping. Campers are reminded that many parks still offer fall discount camping rates. Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport is well on its way to its goal of adding electricity to 1,000 campsites, with plans to have close to 600 of these sites available during the peak 2010 camping season. Other park improvements have included upgrading or replacing entry kiosk and service centres and boat launches and replacing picnic tables and barbecues.
