For the past 20 years, as swimmers have come and gone, there has been one constant at the Flin Flon Aqua Centre: Heather Todoschuk. In 1986, Todoschuk started what would become her career at the pool. "I started out as a lifeguard," says the now-former pool manager and recreation programmer. "I just loved to teach kids to swim and I just love kids," she says. While starting out at the Aqua Centre, Todoschuk said she hadn't planned to move up at the time, "but I progressed to it." Before starting her term at the pool, Todoschuk went to Mount Royal College in Calgary, where she took a rec diploma program. Todoschuk will be heading to Thompson tomorrow to start a new job as the Aquatic Supervisor at the Norplex Pool. Moving from one place to another can be difficult for anyone, and Todoschuk says there will be some hard parts with her relocation. "I'm going to miss all the swimmers and all the regulars," she says, adding, "I'm going to miss everything about this job. "Well, almost everything," she jokes, adding, "I'm not going to miss the maintenance." Thompson does have a larger population than Flin Flon and Todoschuk says that will be a challenge, but she does have a start already. "I know about 50-100 people by name up there already, but it will certainly take longer to get to know everyone." The Flin Flon native says this new job in Thompson may be her last in the aquatic environment, but she's not closing any doors any time soon. "Who knows, I might become an instructor just for fun," she says with a smile. Many of Todoschuk's hours at the Flin Flon Aqua Centre were spent putting together programs for the city, which she says, she won't be doing in Thompson. "It will be a big change," she says, "but I might get involved with things as well." Already on Todoschuk's list of things to do is joining the triathlon club, playing ringette and continuing her work with the Special Olympics. It hasn't been decided yet if Thompson will be her final move or not. "I don't have a vision that far yet," she jokingly says. Todoschuk worked her last shift at the Flin Flon Aqua Centre on Wednesday.
