In an effort to ensure all Manitoba athletes are able to participate in sports, the third annual Polar Bear Dare will be held in February.
Participants will plunge into the icy water in Lac Du Bonnet on February 22 to raise money for KidSport Manitoba.
The brave souls are asked to fundraise for the chilly event with three options for participating.
First, a dare can be accepted and funds can be raised to ensure a jump in the lake.
Second, a dare can be made to another person to raise the funds and take a dive.
And thirdly, dares can be challenged with the participant collecting the least amount of pledges taking a swim.
The Polar Bear Dare encourages participants to go all out for the event.
“Ready? Set? Goooo!,” reads the Sport Manitoba website. “Get your costumes, teams, and dares planned.”
Prizes will be awarded to the best costume as well as most money raised by a team and individual, and by dare.
New to the challenge this year, prizes will also be awarded to the most entertaining individual or team.
For those who are interested in helping to make sure Manitoba athletes are able to participate in sports, but don’t want to take the chilly plunge, donations can be made to KidSport Manitoba.
“Lend your support to someone who is willing to take the plunge or support the event in general,” reads the website. “All proceeds will support Manitoba kids who cannot afford to play sport.”
The website also cautions that Polar Bear Dare participants “must be in good health and physically able to perform the task.”
Participants will be required to fundraise a minimum of $100.
Brave souls will take the plunge later this Winter as the third annual Polar Bear Dare will help raise funds for KidSport Manitoba – allowing children to participate in sports who otherwise may not be able to. The Polar Bear Dare will take place in February in Lac Du Bonnet.
